FESTIVALS :

MAHASHIVRATRI :

The festival marks Shiva's marriage with Parvati, the daughter of the Himalayas.

Khajuraho Festival of Dance (Feb/March) :

The cream of Indian classical dancers performs here to display the best of Indian dance and music. The flood it temples of Khajuraho provide the perfect backdrop to the festival.

Id-Ul-Zuha :
An Important Muslin Festival occurring in January / February, this commenmorates Abrahma's willingness to sacrifice his own son to God.

Dussehra :


Observed in October this festival celebrates Ram's victory over the demon God Ravana. Spectacular ten-headed effigeies of the demon are burnt with a colourful display of fireworks.

Diwali :

This is the festival of lights and the Goddess of wealth Lakshmi is worshipped on this holy evening. Houses are lit up with oil lamps and colourful patterns of rangoli are etched on the floor.

Guru Parab :


A fortnight after Diwali, the sikhs observe the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak the founder of their religion.

Guys, following are the Festivals of Belur, Halebid and Hassan. Just take a look on following information.

Hoysala Mahotsava :

The dance festival held at Belur and Halebid is a magnificent event. The splendid Hoysala temples with their sculpture extravaganza make the perfect venue for this culture feast.

The annual car festival at the Chennakeshava temple takes place in March/April.

The Mahamastakaabhisheka ceremony of the Bahubali statue takes place at Sharavanabelagola once in 12 years when the planets are in a particular trajectory. The priests scale up a giant scaffolding and pour hundreds of pots containing sacred water, ghee, milk, jewels, gold and silver coins.

Shopping :

Belur and Halebid have no major shopping attractions. Small momentos of stone carvings can be purchased near most tourist destinations.

Shopping at Tirumala-Tirupati :

Guys, if you want to shop at Tirumala-Tirupati, then here is the great place for you. Lepakshi Emporium, an idela place for purchasing attractive handicraft at moderate prices, it is situated near Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Central Reception Office. T.T.D. Gardens, the beautiful ornamental gardens with rare species of plants and trees are situated nearby.

Festivals :

Brahmotsavam Festival is the most famous annual festival which celebrated on grand scale for nine days in September, attracting pilgrims and tourists from all parts of century. The fifth and ninth days of the festival are especially significant as Garudostavam and Rathotavam takes place on these days.

Vijayanagar Festival is held for three days at the historic Chandragiri Fort near Tirupati-Balaji in the third week of October every year.

The Kalyanotsavam (marriage of the Lord) is celebrated everyday at the Kalyanmandapam except during the Brahmotsavam. Devotees can perform this ceremony on payment of Rs. 3000.

India : Bodh Gaya : Festival and Ceremony - 4

Buddha Jayanti:

This Buddha Jayanti falls on the full moon night in the month of Vaisakha (either in April or May). Commemorates the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha. Pilgrims came from all over the world to Bodh Gaya to pay respect and homage to Lord Buddha. The Mahabodhi Temple wears a festival look and is decorated with colourful flags and flowers.

Kalchakra Ceremony:

This ceremony organized under the leadership of Dalai Lama, the spiritual and temporal head of Tibetan Buddhist and conducted over a period of 10 days, annually. It is believed that if one attends this ceremony at least once in a lifetime one will attain salvation.
Peace Ceremony:

Since 1994 the American branch of the Tibetan Nyingmpa sect holds a peace ceremony with a view to promoting peace and good will among mankind. The ceremony includes daily prayers with one lakh chantings, one lakh brass butter lamps lighting, offering with garlands and flowers to the Mahabodhi temple.

Pitra Paksh Tarpan:

The solemn festival is held at Gaya every year in memory of family ancestors. Gaya is a very sacred pilgrim center fo Hindus. The temple of Vishnupada on the bank of the river. Falgu attracts a very large number of pilgrims. Devotees also make offerings at the jewel walk and although a Hindu festival, prayers are also offered to the Lord Buddha.
Shopping:

One can buy sweets, handicrafts items and decorative pieces made out of stone in Bodh Gaya. Though sea is very far from this place, we also find items made from sea shells. Behind the Bodhi Mandir in Bodh Gaya is a huge market for foreign goods.
