This city is about 300 years old. Alibag was developed in the 17th century by Sarkhel Kanhoji Angre, the Naval chief of King Shivaji's kingdom. It has been declared as a Taluka place in 1852. In 1869, four Talukas and Kulaba district was formed under its region. This is city is also known by another name "Shribag" At that time, this city was not directly connected to Mumbai. Usually people was traveled this distance by sea from Revas, Dharmtar or Mankule. In 1964, this picture was changed. The bridge was built known as DHARAMTAR CREEK, and ALIBAG was connected to Mumbai in this way. It is an pastoral town on the western coast of India, known as the Konkan region. It lies on almost the same latitude as the southern tip of Mumbai and is very close to this tip across the narrow strip of the Arabian Sea. It has a lovely beach that is secure. This is a place for a vacation. An easygoing footstep of life is a small town with a beautiful beach and the green hills on the other side, free of pollution and noise. Alibag's monsoon is very heavy therefore, some times ferryboats and sailboats are not in operation from mid-June to late September. The prime attraction of this place (which was developed in the 17th century by Shivaji's naval chief Kanhoji Angre) are many forts, churches, temples and the famous Tower of St. Barbara.

Akshi Beach: It is situated 5 km away from Alibag.
Kihim Beach: It is a private place at a distance of 12 km from Alibag. This place is famous for full of coconut trees and forests. It is nothing but the house of butterflies, birds and flowers.
Kashid Beach: This beach is situated on the Alibag-Murud highway, just about 30 km away from Alibag.
Mandawa Beach:
This beach is situated 20 km north of Alibag, many celebrities have their own bungalows here. The ferryboat services are available from Mumbai to the Mandawa jetty.
Other Attractions of ALIBAG: KOLABA FORT:It is a premier location, this fort is situated in the sea at a distance of 1-2 km from the Alibag. One can walk to the fort in waist-deep water, at the time of fall. However, during the tide, boats need to be used.
