Guys, it is an interesting tale of how the Hoysala Dynasty got the name. It is said that 'holy Sala', meaning 'strike Sala!' were the words called out to Sala, the legendary head of this dynasty. He was involved in armed combat with a tiger. Sala immortalised himself and the tiger by single-handedly killing the beast. This tale of heroism inspired the royal emblem of the Hoysala Dynasty, also to be found in the temple carvings. Hoysala architecture has its roots in today's Chikamagalur District in Karnataka. The ancient artists developed a new style of temple architecture and conceived their shrines as star shaped structures (Vesara style) as opposed to the usual cubical form, set upon raised platforms. The Hoysalas built for their age but also for the ages to come. In their 300 years of rule, the entire area was so saturated with religious establishments that it restricted the succeeding dynasties from building more. The temples at Belur and Halebid are the cream of what remains of the Hoysala Dynasty. The most photographed and perhaps the best there ever were, they are a must on every tourist's itinerary.

BELUR :

Belur was once the capital of a powerful empire, the Hoysala Kings, on the banks of River yagachi, its now called teh Banaras of the South, aka Dakshina Varanasi.

Chennakeshava Temple :

It is Belur's main temple, Chennakeshava is dedicated to Lord Krishna and set in a compound with several smaller temples and a pond. It was commissioned by Kind Vishuvardhana in 1117 AD to celebrate hoysala military victories, it took over a hundred years to complete and its architecture is foreign to the prevailing Hoysala style of the 12th century. It is exceptionally large (about 100-ft high) and it features rich embellishments with a magnificent gateway tower gopuram - in Dravidian style.

It is delicate in tis fillgree work, with the added attraction of bracketed figures of celestial dancers, called Madanikas (and exclusive to Belur) and an innumerable variety of intricate pillars. Contrary to Indian tradition, these Hoysala sculptors signed their work at this temple.

At the entrance, facing the temple stands the winged figure of Garuda, Lord Vishnu's carrier. On the frieze, around the walls outside are 650 charging elephants all different from each other. In front of the shrine, there is a beautiful statue of Shantala Devi, queen of King Vishnuvardhana.

Hoysala Architecture :

Art and music were regarded highly by the Hoysalas. The most marvelous specimens of Hoysala architecture, found exclusively at Belur, are the angeled bracket figures depicting celestial nymphs. The beautiful and expressive nymphs are depicted singing, dancing or executing daily chores. They are adorned with a wealth of detail in their make up, jewellery and coiffures. From the study of the sculptures it is observed that during the Hoysalas region, female participation in the public affairs was very prominent.

The Hoysalas first converted to Jainsim and then to Hinduism. Its clearly depicted in their temples where one can see the images of Jain, Shaivite and Vaishnavite.

Veeranarayana Temple :

This temple is situated to the west of the Chennakesava Temple. It has numerous finely carved figures of various Hindu Gods.

Channigaraya Temple :

In the huge walled court at Belur, this temple also contains splendid pieces of sculpture.

In the same premises there are Soumyanayaki Temple and andal Temple. The most striking features of the Hoysala shrines, is the high pilnthed, star-shaped platform, on which the temples have been built.

It has a courtyard and an old large cross made of black stone. Its external architecture belongs to the Tuscan order and its interior to the mosaic-Corinthian style. Its length is about 190 feet and its breadth about 60 feet.

The Chapel of Our Lady of the Mount :

This chapel is situated on an elevation, it is built of laterite plastered with lime mortar. It has three main altars dedicated respectively to our lady of the mount, St. Anthony and St. Andrew. The chapel was built under the orders of Afonso de Albuquerque in 1510.

The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, Navelim :

It is said to have been built by Alfonso de Albuquerque. Its facade has the appearance of a fortress. In front of its altar lies the tombstone of Garcia de Sa, one of the early governors of Goa and his wife Caterina a Piro - the first Portuguese woman to arrive in Goa. It is a fine, example of true "Manueline" style architecture of the early Portuguese. Its interior is simple and has five altars, the main altar of which bears the image of Nossa Senhora de Rozario or Our Lady of the Rosary.

Convent and Church of St. Cajetan, Mapusa :

It was build by Italian friars of the order of Theatines in 1640. The friars were missionaries appointed by the then Pope Urban VIII to preach Christianity to Our Lady of Divine Providence but is popularly called St. Cajetan, the founder of the Order of Theatines. The Church of St. Cajetan has been modeled after the Basilica of St. Peter's in Rome. Its length is 121 feet and breadth 81 feet. It is built of laterite stone and is lime plastered. The external architecture is Corinthian and the interior mosaic-Corinthian.

Chapel of St. Anthony :

It is dedicated to St. Anthony the patron saint of the Portuguese army and navy and is also one of the earliest to be built in Goa by Alfanso de Albuquerque. It was abandoned in 1835, and rebuilt in 1961 by the last Governor General of Goa, Vassalo de Silva.

Church of St. Alex :

Church of St. Alex, with its two towers and a magnificent dome displays the beauty of the architectural style and ornate altars.

Ries Magos Church :

This church is also known as Church of the Three Magi Kings, built in 1555 was once a mission center of the Franciscan Order of Monks. At another time it was the official residence of the Portuguese dignitaries.

The Church of Mae de Deus :

This Church was situated at 13 kms distance from Panaji amidst picturesque surroundings, in the village of Saligao, this beautiful church is the finest piece of gothic style. The shrine of the miraculous statue of Mae de Deus (Mother of God) was brought here.

Church of St. Andrew :

At the northern end of Goa Velha, is the Church of St. Andrew, wherein, a fortnight before Easter, 30 statues of the saints the stolen. Later these are paraded around the roads of the village.

The Church And Convent of St. Monica, Goa :

The Convent was sanctioned in 1598 and its foundation was laid by the Archbishop Dom Frei Alexio de Menezes who was also the then Governor of Portuguese India on July 2nd 1606. Its work was completed in 1627. It is a huge three-storied building of laterite with a large inner courtyard and many halls are pointed with floral decorations and scenes from the Holy Bible. The convent was subsequently called the Royal Monastery of Santa Monica. It was the first nunnery of the East.

It is dedicated to infant (Bom) Jesus, the Basilica of Bom Jesus is famous throughout the Roman Catholic world. The Church houses the Holy sacrament and the remains of St. Francis Xavier. the construction of the Church began in 1594 and was completed in 1605. Its richly gilded main alter has the figure of infant Jesus. Up above, there is a big statue of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the order of Jesuit. the Holy Trinity - the father, the son and the Holy Ghost are depicted on a medallion.

This is the largest church in Goa, India and reportedly all Asia. The original building was constructed of mud and stones and strow and was erected in 1510 and was dedicated to St. Catherine for it was on St. Catherine's day - Nov 25th that Alfonso de Albuquerque conquered Goa. The Portuguese viceroy, Dom Francisco Coutinho, the Count of Redondo (1561 - 1564) commissioned its construction. The construction begun in 1562 and completed in 1652, He wanted it to be "a grandiose church worthy of the wealth, power and frame of the Portuguese who dominated the seas from the Atlantic to the Pacific." Se Cathedral has 14 altars, an 80m long aisle and 5 bells - one of them is the famous "golden bell."

The Chapel of St. Xavier :

Guys, architecturally, it is of the Doric order. The chapel was within the enclosure of the College of St. Paul and was dedicated either to St. Anthony or to St. Jerome. As the chapel was used by St. Francis Xavier, it was re-dedicated to him after his canonization in 1622. The original chapel fell into ruins in 1570 and the present chapel was rebuilt in 1884.

Finally I am become a PPPian

Hey, guys, It is the evening time and as a routine I am playing with my surfing habits on the net. I opened up my mail box and found one mail received from PPP. I just shocked about it. Because from so many days (I think from last 3 months) I am trying to be a part of PPP. Twice and thrice I read this mail and got my self satisfaction that "Finally I am become a PPPian on the PPP platform". It happens only because of the helping hands of PPP.

Actually, one can thinks that it is not so important to be a part of PPP (it is the opinion of the persons who are not a part of PPP till date because they never pass the rules of PPP). Anyway, I do not bother about their opinions. But if you ask me the same question then here is my answer in simple world i.e., "AWESOME".

Guys, on the other hand, there are so many blog network on this huge and vast internet media and everyone tries for PPP. But the fact is that there are few people (like me) who get success to pass through the "PPP examination rules" and most of them are failed. I agree that only quality post or articles helps to pass the rules of PPP.

I knocked the door of PPP's blog network and last I get it what I want. Guys, first time I came to know that what type of quality in your blog's post (articles) or site that PPP expected. I worked hard on the quality post. I never run behind any sort of backlinks, trackbacks or link exchange programms (whatever links placed on my blog are too old) to increase the PR of my site. Many times I read these rules of PPP and act on them to get the success and become a PPPian.

PPP is its kind of a fantastic blog network in which you can earn an amazing paid opportunities (what I experienced right now). I am also thankful to the my Blog Guru who inspired me a lot and did supportive act to become a good blogger and delivered so many tips. He taught me how to do the real work in blogging. He is also a part of PPP from last one and half years.
