Fragrant Hills is also known as the Forest Park, is located on the eastern sides of the Western Hills, approximately 10 kilometers to the west of Beijing.
Due to its high elevation and dense cover of trees, spring arrives late in the area and summer days are always pleasantly cool. The best time to visit the park is late fall, when the smoke tree leaves turn red. The trees make the grandest display of all. There are also groves of apricots, pears, peaches and lilacs adding their fragrance, and the more solemn evergreens, whose contribution to the local beauty are unrestricted by seasonal changes.
All you can go there on a clear, beautiful afternoon in early November. Taxi services take you back to the city from this place. The drop-off is about 1.5 km walk uphill to the entrance. On the way up, you can take some local color - crafts, candied sour apples on a stick, BBQ, a noodle place, exotic street food, and street musicians - quite charming. When all you finally entered the park, there are trees but not too many autumn leaves could found. Take a few pictures of a young maple tree with orange leaves, then headed over to the cable car queue Fragrant Hills.
Getting on the cable car is one of the best experiences here all you must have. In my opinion, it's worth the queue. This ride is the best part of the experience. Shades of orange, green and gold carpeted the steep hill. You can find better thing here is - more beautiful fall foliage and a tranquil park bench area along the way.
My favorite getaway when I need to breathe some fresh air. I love the mix of nature and leftovers of old houses and buildings. Though it can be crowded, it is definitely possible to find places with very few or no people. Try to leave the paved paths, and venture into the woods. It’s worth it! So visit at Fragrant Hills Beijing China.
