The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), Mumbai - 71

Contacting the Chhaptrapati Shivaji Vastu Sanghralaya (The Prince of Wales Museum) is the Hornbill House, the headquarters of the Bombay Natural History Society. It is an institution of a different kind where collectors have been presenting their prize examples of animals and birds for over a century.

The Bombay Natural History Society is today the biggest non-government organisation (NGO) in the Indian landmass booked in nature conservation research. In the 120 years of its creation, its dedication has been, and continues to be, the conservation of India's natural wealth, protection of the environment and sustainable use of natural resources for a balanced and healthy development for future contemporarieses. The Society's guiding principle has always been that conservation must be based on scientific research - a tradition exemplified by its late president, Dr. Sálim Ali.

Here, eveyone can see replications and rarified specimens of vertebrates, insects, beetles, butterflies and embalmed reptiles. A temporary membership of the society is available, which changes one to know more about society's activities in the sphere of nature conservation. With this, one can even access the library and attend the weekly lectures. Bombay Natural History Society is not open to public, so interested ones are required to take prior permission for admission.

The museum located at Byculla has interesting exhibits such as archaeological finds, maps and photographs which depict the history of Mumbai.

Guys, Bhau Daji Lad Museum is the most previous museum in Mumbai. Rani Jijamata Udyan attains the beautiful background of this historical museum at Ambedkar Road, in Byculla area of Mumbai. This museum was built in 1872. It was at the beginning christened as Victoria and Albert Museum after the museum of London. This museum has a bang-up assemblage of archaeological souvenirs, maps and photographs that look furtively into the history of Mumbai. It was later nominated after its beneficiary, Dr. Bhau Daji Lad, who devoted his life to this museum.

The history of Bhau Daji Lad Museum brings out that it was planned with an amount of Rupees 6,000, at the first step of Dr. Bhau. The wonderful structure of building had lost its shininess with the times, but with the help of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, Mumbai (INTACH) that is freshening up the museum with extreme care. The treasury constitutes of more than 6000 worthful artifacts, including sculptures, pottery, coins, ivory work, paintings, etc. It has special sections on the social and cultural life in India also.

Away from the above assembling, the museum has over 4,000 reference books and manuscripts in its oversight. The clay models, costumes, finely shaped silver, copper ware etc, are amongst the most-precious assembling which is deserving taking a glimpse. Victoria and Albert Museum also contains a distinctive photographs of early Mumbai and testimonials from the colonial past. The half-done collection was first displayed to Lord Canning in 1856. Today, Bhau Daji Lad Museum is came to in its visual aspect, with gold ornamentations on wall corners, ceilings, hand railings and blue-painted pillars. Mani Bhawan Gandhi Sangralaya, Mumbai - 69

Guys, Mani Bhawan Gandhi Sangralaya, Mumbai, settled at Labrunum Road at Gamdevi near Chowpatty Beach. It was the residence of iconic Mahatma Gandhi, where he used to stay from time to time between 1917 and 1934. The Museum families a pictorial gallery, personal items of Mahatma Gandhi, a 20,000 volume research library and a film and recording archive.

Mani Bhavan is tucked in one of the leafy bylanes around August Kranti Maidan. The house was convinced to a museum in 1955 and is now a huge monument of Gandhian literature and school of thought. Tourist brochures are available in all major European and Asian languages and photography is not allowed. The two storied Mani Bhavan has on display a picture or series of pictures representing a continuous scene of the major events in Gandhi's life, a photo essay (stunning is the Second Round Table Conference image, where all eyes are turned to the camera, Gandhi is completely oblivious to it) and copies of letters written by the Mahatma (the note to Hitler is catching), representing Gandhi's simplicity and humility. Nothing makes these attributes more apparent than his well preserved room, equipped with just the bare essentials and the symbolic spinning wheel (Charkha).

Guys you can visit here from 09.00 am to 06.00 pm daily except Mondays. Entry fees: Rs. 3/-  only. You can contact to Director, Tel.: 022-3805864.

This Museum formerly known as the Prince of Wales Museum, the Museum has 3 main sections – Art, Archaeology and Natural History. The art section has a rich collection of Indian paintings constituting its different styles, European paintings, Tibetan and Nepali Art, textile, armory, glass and jade collections, objects carved in rock crystal, metalware and lacquered woodwork. Displays in the archaeological section include archaic tools and ornaments unearthed  by  Sir John Marshall in Mohenjodaro in 1922.

In the early years of the 20th century, some outstanding citizens of Mumbai decided to set up a Museum with the help of the government to memorialize the visit of the Prince of Wales. One of the declarations of the committee at its meeting on June 22, 1904 was, "The building should have a handsome and noble structure appropriate to the site selected, and in keeping with the best style of local architecture."

The committee spared no effort to recognize this ambition. On March 1, 1907, the then government of Mumbai handed over to the museum committee a spot of land known as the "Crescent Site", situated at the southern end of the present Mahatma Gandhi Road. After an open competition for the design, George Wittet was commissioned to design the Museum building in 1909. George Wittet had co-operated with John Begg in the construction of the General Post Office building. His other works in Bombay include the Court of Small Causes and the magnificent Gateway of India. You can visit here from 10.15 am to 05.45 pm daily except Mondays. Entry fees Rs. 10/- for Indians and Rs. 300/- for foreigners. Contact: Director, Tel.: 022-2844519, 2844484

National Gallery of Modern art, Mumbai - 67

Guys, this Gallery plays master of ceremonies to the work of leading Indian Artists. The National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) was demonstrated in 1954 by the Government of India, with a gallery in New Delhi. Its collection of more than 14,000 works includes artists such as Thomas Daniell, Abanindranath Tagore, Rabindranath Tagore, Gaganendranath Tagore, Nandalal Bose, Jamini Roy, Amrita Sher-Gil as well as foreign artists.

NGMA Mumbai was opened to the public in 1996. It hosts various exhibitions and art collections of big-name artists, sculptors and refinements. It is settled near Regal Cinema in Colaba.

Apart from its traditional art schools, India also has a contemporary art lineage that began in the early fifties. Today, present-day Indian art is known the world over and can be viewed at the National Gallery of Modern Art bash opposite the Prince of Wales Museum. Converted from an old public hall, the dynamic, three tiered structure houses collections from India's best known living artists and provides a convenient overview of the country's contemporary art scenario.

As I said, National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai is located in South Mumbai near Colaba. Here is the address of NGMA for your kind reference. "MG Road, Kala Ghoda, Fort Mumbai, PIN - 400001 . It is located near the Regal Cinema exactly opposite the Jehangir Art Gallery. The nearest station to reach National Gallery of Modern Art is Churchgate or CST. The place is normally open from Tuesday to Sunday from 11.00 am to 05.00 pm. There are some nominal entry charges that are required to be paid to get an entry pass.

Since most art galleries are located at Kala Ghoda, it becomes a strategical and commodious location for art lovers. Art lovers from all over the world and also from India should surely visit place. You can get to see some the rare work at the National Gallery of Modern Art. To spend some quality and know more about art and mania associated with it National Gallery of Modern Art will surely be an ideal location.
