The museum boasts a splendid collection of objects centered on the arts of Avadh and the customs, habits and mythology of India. Some of its main attractions are in inscribed wine jar bearing the name of Aurangzeb Alamgir from the 17th century, a jade chamakali with the name “Jahangir” from 1036 A.D., and a wooden sarcophagus dating back to 1000 B.C. The museum also has rare silver and gold coins, Egyptian mummies and a state of Saraswati, dating back to the 2nd century A.D.
Guys Lucknow State Museum located in the historic Choti Chattar Manzil and the Lai Baradari, formerly it was known as Coronation Hall of the Nawabs of Avadh. Further it displaced in 1963 to its new land and the buildings that has a modern three storeyed structure situated incongruously in the the Prince of Wales Zoological Gardens.
The first collection centered around the arts of Avadh and objects related to the customs, habits and mythology of India. Step by step, it elaborated to include dug up ancientnesses from Piparahawa, Kapilavastu, where the Buddha originated up. Now it has germinated into a utile museum with sculpture, bronzes, paintings, natural history and anthropological specimens, coins, textiles and decorative arts. From the vast number of displayed objects, some hundred are rare and of great value. These include an autographed wine jar bearing the name of Aurangzeb Alamgir in 17th century, a jade chamakali with the name Jahangir and the date 1036 AD, a 16th century painting of a scene from the Kalpasutra describing an elephant rider and a Jain mum, a 16th century copy of the Harivansha in Persian with nine illustrations, rare silver and gold coins, a prehistoric that suggesting human characteristics for animals or inanimate things figured out and a set in a rigidly conventional pattern of behavior, habits, or beliefs. Here you can experience the thrill after watching ans Egyptian mummy and wooden casket of 1000 BC.
I would like to add one more point here is, you can see the rare stone sculpture inclusive of the earliest picture of Balarama and a panchmukhi shivalinga (both of the 2nd century BC), and a statue of Saraswati, again reputed to be the earliest depiction (2nd century AD). The coin collection dates from 6th century BC onwards. You can see here teh two recent accomplishments are Jahangir's silver zodiac coins made at the Ahmedabad mint. Lai Baradari, the Kaisarbagh unit museum, remains the archaeology and displays excavated antiquities from Uttar Pradesh.
