Book Store for Scholastics at Mumbai - 37

Guys here is some collective information only for you guys who are eager to wait for most important books of any types. All you can get your expected books from following information.

The Computer Book Shop (the Fort Road joining TV station to Flora Fountain) has the most comprehensive selection of computer-related books.

Crossword (Mahalaxmi Chambers, Bhulabhai Desai Road) has a very large selection of books, but its main draw is its computerized library of all available titles. It also offers a "Dial a Book" service delivering books at your doorstep the same day. It often organizes "Meet the Author" sessions and book readings by eminent personalities.

Danai (off Linking Road, Khar) is another bookshop which is willing to order titles which may not be in stock.

Lotus Book House (Bandra Reclamation, Bandra) has the reputation of being a more personalized version of Crossword.

Smokers Corner (a block from the Strand Bookstall), running since the 1940s, is another of Bombay's institutions. As well as being a bookstore, is also houses a small library. This store offers the best deals for new books.

Strand Book Store (Dhannur, Sir. Pherozshah Mehta Road, about two blocks from the Computer Book Shop) offers an impressive inventory of books.

The street around Flora Fountain is a stretch of about 2 kilometers on which over 100,000-200,000 books are up for grabs everyday. About 80% of the books are second-hand.

Successful and easy shopping In India - 35

Guys, its my 35th article on Shopping In India. I am trying to pull the visitors to visit each corner of my beautiful country. Here I am furnishing some guidelines to become a successful shopping in India. Just take a look.

Shop Easy:

For the shopper in a hurry, the Government Central Cottage Industries Emporiums in each major city are well appointed multi-storeyed complexes containing a selection of handicrafts from every corner of the country. Cottage accepts major international credit cards. Each branch has an air freighting section where bulky purchases are delivered right at your doorstep, back home. Likewise, many other stores in India will pack and air freight bulky purchases.

Successful Shopping:

For successful shopping in India just follow the below guidelines as you travel through India's shopping delights.

1. Get a good feel of the city by taking an organized tour.

2. Find out about the best shops from selected brochure, your hotel caretaker and other familiarities.

3. Communicate clearly with merchants about what you want.

4. If you want any custom-made work (tailoring, jewellery) done, visit the shops as soon as you can to allow time for delivery.

5. Save time by focusing your shopping around specific shopping centres rather than on stores.

6. Get a map of the city.

7. Look to your right before stepping off the curb as vehicles drive on the left-hand side.

8. Should the weather not permit outdoor shopping, I suggest, just plan your shopping around indoor shopping centres and departmental stores.

9. Avoid shopping on weekends.

And last but not least, reach your native with smiling face and memorable moments which you spent at my country.

Shopping In India : Exotic JAIPUR - 34

Guys, one of India's most popular tourist destinations, Jaipur is the "pink" capital of the desert state of Rajasthan. Shopping is one of Jaipur's major attractions. Both the walled city and the adjacent M.I. Road (also known as Mirza Ismail Marg), which runs southwest from Ajmeri Gate, are lined with shops and factories. Amer Road is know for its many handicraft shops. Be sure you bargain hard for everything in Jaipur.

GEMS:

Jaipur is India's major gem cutting and polishing centre and one of the world's most important gem producers. Be careful against synthetic stones being passed off as genuine. Explore the many shops in and around the Johari Bazaar and along M.I. Road.

JEWELLERY:

Some of the best selections are at the Gem Palace and Amrapali, both on M.I. Road.

HANDICRAFTS:

There is a variety of handicrafts to choose from, ranging from brass figures, pottery, marble statues, metal ware to woodcarvings, and stone sculptures.

TEXTILES:

Jaipur is well known for its unique tie-dye (bandhani) and hand-blocekd cotton and silk fabrics. Two villages outside Jaipur are especially famous Sanganer and Bagru, where you can see families producing them.

Carpets and Rugs:

Jaipur is also well known for its wool carpets and cotton durries. Some of the carpet and rug shops also offer hand-blocked cotton and silk fabrics. Try Carpet Mahal and Textile Mahal, Channi Carpets and Textiles.

Shopping at Delhi - (II) - 32

Guys, here are more locations where you can buy the products and get a reasonable deals at Delhi.

Hauz Khas Village and Shahpur Jat are traditional villages turned into shopping bazaars. The village has a plethora of boutiques, galleries and restaurants in a "rural" ambiance. Other villages like Mehrauli, Khirkee and Lado Sarai have similar markets.

A crafts bazaar set up by Delhi Tourism is Dilli Heat. Here one can buy crafts from craftspersons.

The Santushit Shopping Arcade opposite Ashok Hotel has become another popular haunt. Developed by the Air Force Wives Association, it has a select number of boutiques where apparel, furnishings and accessories are available.

The DLF Ansal Plaza shopping plaza near South Extension is Delhi's largest covered shopping mall. A popular haunt for the young people, it has lots of designer and music stores.

For export surplus garments including t-shirts, skirts, shirts, jackets and swim wear, Sarojini nagar market in South Delhi, is the ideal place - where bargaining is the norm.

Delhi is the ideal place if you are looking for sports wear. Reebok gear is available at factory prices at Lajpat Nagar, Adidas and Nike too have factory outlets near Radisson hotel. Levis, Arrow, Allen Solly, Laco'ste showroom are found all over the city.

Shopping at DELHI - Abracadabra (I) - 31

Guys, Delhi is melting pot of many peoples and cultures. Some of India's best shipping is found in Delhi, a relatively easy place to shop as long as you know what to buy and where to go. Visitors find a wide choice of items such as carpets, silks, jewellery, leather and silver ware, handicrafts and hand printed cottons. Each item is available in a range of prices, depending on the quality and the outlet. Each of its markets has distinctive ambiance adding a special flavour to the experience of shopping.

In the old city is Chandni Chowk close to the largest mosque in Asia, the Jama Masjid. Many of the shops here are over a hundred years old and the mesh of lanes and by lanes are full of treasures to be found. Among the by lanes are Dariba, the silver market, Khari Baoli, the spice market and Kinari Bazaar for trimming and tinsel.

Connaught Place, New Delhi's original shopping arcade was planned as part of the Imperial capital in 1911. One can find up-market products here from designer stores to Chinese shoemakers.

On Baba Kharak Singh Marg, are government state emporia that offer a glimpse of handicrafts of each state. As does the Central Cottage Industries Emporium on Janpath. Across the road are a string of Tibetan shops selling accessories.

Sundernagar Market, across The Oberoi, is the place to shop for antiques and silver jewellery. The stores keep a choice selection, especially of silver jewellery from Ladakh, semi-precious stones, copper and silver object d'art. Not far from Sundernagar is the Crafts Museum Shop, attached to the museum in Pragati Maidan.

In South Delhi are the up-market shopping centres, South Extension, Greater Kailash I and II, Green Park and New Friends Colony.

Shopping In India : Bangalore - India's Software Capital and Land of Silk - 26

Guys, Bangalore's sophisticated shopping malls cater to its expatriate and local residents. Since silk, handloom, fabrics, garments, gold and silver jewellery and incense are produced here, it is cheaper compared to other cities. Bangalore is a great place to shop with major shopping areas close to each other. Bangalore has also become the nation's first city to open Super Markets / Super Bazaars. They are all over the city. Also there are interesting shopping zones in the various popular residential zones of the city.

The Karnataka Handloom Development Corporation's "Priyadarshini" Handloom House is located at various places. Here one can find fine Mysore silk and sandalwood items. Inlay work in brass and rosewood, ivory artefacts and the Lambani jewellery make good decorative as well as gift items.

Brigade Road:

This is a popular shopping place and hangout for young people. It has many clubs, Rex (the best movie theater in town), cyber cafes (offering coffee and Internet access), a bowling alley, a discotheque, a video game parlor and numerous restaurants. Down Brigade Street, the other major shoppoing avenue, is the more expensive cantonment area.

Commercial Street:

Available here are clothes, dress materials, jewellery and food. From foreign designer wear outlets like Levis, Pierre Carding to the causal wear teenager trendy stores like Wearhouse and Weekender and formal menswear like Allen Solly, Lous Phippipe and Van Heusen, this is the place for serious shopping.

Mahatma Gandhi Road (M.G. Road):

A commercial area, there are a large number of sari stores, like "Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation' (off M.G. Road), "Deepam Silks" and "Prasiddhi". There are also two established book stores. "Gangaram" and "Higgin Botham".

Residency Road: It now called Field Marshal C.M. Cariappa Road)

Numerous state emporia are located here each selling their state specific handicrafts. The prices are fixed.

Check out the Majestic Area, close to the city railway terminus. Though clogged with traffic, this neighborhood is popular with local residents. So, go and shop at Bangalore.

A New India Shopping Experience : Chennai - Madras Checks (II) - 25

Guys, here are some more information on the Shopping Experience at Chennai.

Poompuhar, the government emporium of Tamil Nadu, has can mats, wood elephants, woodcarvings (a perennial favorite is Ganesh) and bronze figurines which the state is famous for. Most of these figurines are copies of Chola originals, which represent a high point in the cultural traditions of the state's history. Bronzes, through expensive, are each an individual work of art, making them a good buy.

Chennai has become a flourishing centre for leather garments and footwear. Since Chennai supplies most of its produce to Western countries, the shops stock the latest designs of the West, Jackets, suede coats, bags, shoes and many other leather items are available here.

Spencer Plaza is India's largest Shopping and Office Mall with over a million square feet building area. the shops are well stocked and display international brands and labels in addiotn to the domestic brands.

Thiruvanthapuram, the capital of Kerala, is a treasure house of craft items that include everything from carved rosewood to decorative masks in papier-marble. Fresh spices like cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, and mace are available in bazaars. Good quality cashew nuts are popular buys.

Kerala's prime produce is coir with its centre in Alappuzba (also Alleppey). Bell metal vessels are another attraction of the state. The shops dealing in these products are mainly locted on M.G. Road.

A New India Shopping Experience : Chennai - Madras Checks (I) - 24

Chennai (formerly Madras), the capital of Tamil Nadu, has come of the best shopping bargains. South Indian cottons and silks from Chennai and nearby Kanchipuram are some fo the finest in India. Not for nothing has the phrase "Madras Checks" become a synonym for the Kanchi cottons which is one of the best in Indian cotton fabric. The right place to pick up a wide range of this fabric is Chennai is the Co-optex showroom on Netaji Subhash Bose Road, quite literally the headquarters of south Indian handloom products.

Silks in an overwhelming range can be found at Park. On Anna Salai, there are several state emporium, of which Kaveri (Karnataka Emporium). Kairali (Kerala Emporium) and Poompuhar (Tamil Nadu Emporium) are the best. The Victoria Technical Institute, also located here, has a wide range of embroidered and crocheted linens made by nuns as charity work. These include children's garments with smocking embroidery. the store also stocks delicate cane work.

A New India Shopping Experience : Hyderabad - From Pearls to Happiness - 23

Every shopping area of the city has its mood and tone. Savour the true Hyderabad culture by shopping in the old city around the ancient monument of Charminar to buy the famous Hyderabadi bangles, surma (natural kajal) and gold lace. Lad Bazaar, the famous lane of bangles, is an exciting bazaar, reminiscent of medieval marts. Ever since the Nizam's patronage of the pearl industry. Hyderabad has remained the premier centre of buying, sorting and selling of pearls. (Interestingly, the pearls come from Japan for polishing and grading and are then patterned into strings, jewellery, or simply sold by weight).

Around Charminar, is another item associated with the former royals - bidri ware. It's a fine art of inlaying silver into a jet alloy formed by lead, zinc and tin. Souvenirs in bidri include key rings, cufflinks, vases and presentation boxes.

Leepakshi, the state's handicrafts emporium on Gun Foundry Road, is the show window for cottage crafts. It also has handlooms and hand-woven fabrics such as Ikat, Pochampallis woven in both silk and cotton, and the traditional art of Kalamkari-fabric painted in different colours with a stylized pen. Fabric shops can be found on Nampalli Road and Kukharam Jahi Road.

General Bazaar, has everything from pins to piano and from fabrics to antiques. one can also get steel, bars and copper vessels, needle work, craft paraphernalia, and great saris. Close by, is the Pot Market. It's a must visit for silver jewellery connoisseurs.

Somajjiguda and Begumpet have numerous retail outlets for branded gear, designer boutiques and home decor / interiors furnishings. The two areas reflect the cosmopolitan culture of the city. Also located here are three of the largest retail outlets of the twin cities, Shopper's Stop, Lifestyle and Pantaloons. There are also a number of good restaurants to take a break in.

Asia's Largest Shopping Festival:

An annual event, the Great Mall of Hyderabad is a combination of the events and 'joi de vivre' of shopping festivals held around the world. It is a blend of the best, offering a rich cultural extravaganza, with great shopping opportunities and entertainment. The entire city of Hyderabad wears a celebratory and festive look during the month. All the major STD booths in the city are converted into interactive cyber kiosks. Specially made designer coaches move around the city, taking visitors from one venue to another.

Indian metros are fast turning into havens for products symbolising a Western lifestyle. Its generation X kids thrive on a staple diet of Coke, Pepsi, Wimpy's and Macdonald's burgers and plenty of Baskin Robbins ice creams. Frozen foods (fish, meats and vegetables), tined fruits and juices, ready to eat/cook packed stuff, jostle for space on the shelves of food stores.
