There are only three options to choose from, so do book well in advance. Pet owners, grab your leashes. The Lake Resort (Tel: 059 247183-84; Tariff: Rs 2,400-2,800) welcome your pets. They can stay with you your room, so long as you let the rest) know well in advance that they are coming. So, pack in the feeding bowls and biscuits and take a pet vacation at Naukuchiatal. The resort has rooms overlooking the lake with full-length bay windows.

Ask Gobind, the cook, to make fried chicken with potatoes and macaroni in tomato sauce for dinner. Ask Ramesh, the watchman, to arrange boating on the tal.

There is also KMVN's Tourist Rest House (Tel: 247138; Tariff: Rs 350-950).

Stay in Bhimtal at Monolith Resorts, (Tel: 05942-247581-82; Tariff: Rs 2,950 - 3,600), which overlooks the tal. Van Vilas (Tel: 09837014833; Tariff: Rs 1,250-2,350 is another good option near the lake.

Where to eat at Naukuchiatal?

Naukuchiatal is not a great place for food There are some food stalls near the jetty but you are safer sticking to your hotel. The Lake Resort serves Indian, Mughlai and Chinese. The KMVN hotel also offer, meals, plus there is the restaurant at Bhimtal, just 4 km away. Just short of the Bhimtal jetty are a row of shops that sell peaches, mangoes and berries in season.
